Born and raised in Minnesota, Jeff Zimmel developed a passion for hockey at an early age, beginning his playing career at just five years old. He competed for several travel teams throughout his youth and went on to play high school hockey for his hometown before advancing to the collegiate level at St. Cloud State University. Following his playing career, Zimmel transitioned into coaching, starting as a volunteer assistant under the legendary Herb Brooks. He continued to coach youth hockey in his hometown, later joining the staff at Coon Rapids High School under Head Coach Steve Moe, where he earned recognition as a defensive specialist. Zimmel’s expertise led to an invitation to coach at the prestigious Minnesota 14U Elite Development Camp, where he helped develop athletes who would go on to compete at the NCAA Division I level and in the NHL. After his time in Minnesota, Zimmel relocated to Arizona, where he founded the hockey program at Park University in Gilbert. Under his leadership, the ACHA-level team has seen its roster double within just two years of its inception. Coach Zimmel is committed to using his extensive experience to mentor and inspire the next generation of hockey players. He is dedicated to cultivating a team-first culture grounded in hard work, discipline, and sportsmanship, with the goal of helping athletes reach their full potential both on and off the ice.
Jeff and his wife are proud parents of three adult children—Ashley, Jerrad, and Shelby—and share their home with two beloved dogs. Together, they are excited for the next chapter in their hockey journey.
